Well hello there.

Welcome to my little corner of the web.

Through this, my first post, I invite you to take a tour of my new website and browse the collections and galleries. It’s been a fun process to create this place to share my work and I look forward to posting new photos and stories over time. A website has been a part of the plan for my photography journey for some time. I decided that I wanted a place to display and share my work. A place for me to consciously review my progress, provide a purpose to my work, and to observe my style and preferences. And a place to challenge myself to improve.

On that note about style, it’s quite telling and interesting to me that I have chosen a black and white urban image to feature on this first post. You will see the website galleries are categorised Landscape, Seascape, Urban, and Black & White. As well as a separate page Out & About where I will post casual snapshots and the like. In collating images to upload to the various categories I was surprised at how drawn I have become to black and white images, and in particular the Urban category. I always thought of myself as a budding landscape photographer, and I probably still feel that way as I love being out in nature exploring and looking for the shot, however I am finding myself really engaging with the black and white city scenes. And it’s not just the black and white. Below are two colour Urban images I made recently in Paris that I feel convey a story and the mood of this beautiful city. Maybe I will have to convince Elizabeth to return to Paris for an extended period !

I spent my entire working life, over 40 years, building a career in the construction industry. From my early days as an apprentice carpenter and later as a manager I loved it. I enjoyed the satisfaction of delivering a tangible physical product. I enjoyed the physical work, being outdoors, the connection and the collaboration. Above all I have been encouraged and motivated by the feedback from appreciative customers. But life has always been a journey of self discovery and improvement. Learning new skills, honing existing skills, challenging oneself to take on more. So now at this stage of life I am excited to step away from the construction industry and pursue a new direction. To explore my creative self through photography and writing.

I look forward to sharing with you my progress, my experiences, and my personal growth through the photos and the stories that follow.

Thank you for reading this first Edition of “Out & About”. If you are interested in my work the website can be easily accessed via the links in the header of this post.

I hope that you too are able to find some time to get out and about soon..
