Day hike Mt Victoria
Blue Mountains National Park is a bush walkers paradise with sweeping views of sheer sandstone cliffs, vast wilderness areas, and over 140 km of tracks and trails to explore. On this visit I was guided by my good friend and fellow photographer Aurelian Delarue. Aure lives close to the national park and had scoped out an overnight photo trip for us. We drove into the Mt Victoria area the evening before and camped along the firetrail near Victoria Falls lookout in order to get the sunrise from this vantage point before heading down into the valley for a day hike following the Victoria Falls walking track.

After enjoying an early breakfast and watching the valley reveal itself below we set off along the 4 km “out & back” trail down into the valley to reach two waterfalls before returning back up the same route in the afternoon. It is not a long walk, but it’s a Grade 4 track. Well marked and formed but quite steep in sections. Coming back up is hard, however certainly worth it. The first falls reached are Silver Cascades, and then a bit further downstream is Victoria Falls.

My amazing guide and hiking companion.
Thank you Aure for guiding me on this wonderful day hike. Exploring nature and photographing with a good friend is such a privilege, even more so when he is an excellent photographer. Your experience and insights into photography are so valuable and I appreciate all your generosity and tuition. Thank you.
I look forward to another trip soon.
